Pryor Joins Arkansas Veteran at Segway Ceremony

Device Helps Restore Mobility, Independence

WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Mark Pryor today said he was honored to meet Clarksville native Army Sergeant Marco Robledo at a ceremony honoring veterans who lost legs or sustained severe injuries in Iraq or Afghanistan. During the event at the Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington, D.C., each veteran received a Segway Personal Transporter to help restore their mobility.

“There are so many young veterans, like Sgt. Robledo, who served our nation with great distinction and now live every day with the sacrifice. I’m proud of him and his decision to attend Arkansas State University next fall,” Pryor said.  “This Segway is an incredible gift that will make his life a little easier, especially as he travels back and forth to classes next year.”

Army Sgt. Marco Robledo, 22, served in Iraq as a combat engineer with the 875th Engineer Battalion of the Arkansas National Guard. He was riding in a Humvee about 20 miles north of Bagdad when a roadside bomb exploded, causing him to lose his left arm and leg. For the last two years, he has been undergoing rehab at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  For his service to our nation, Sgt. Robledo received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Operation Iraqi Freedom Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

The segways, sponsored by the Segs4Vets organization, have helped to restore the quality of life and independence for over 340 veterans.
